Self Reflect and Assessment

i. Recognize The Value of Diverse Spiritual and Religious Perspectives

  • Personally, I was raised to possess strong beliefs in my faith and put my fate in the hands of God, trusting Him with every day that passed and will pass. To think that the Christian faith is the only religion people believe in would be impractical. The belief systems and faiths that exist in the world is infinite. Freedom of religion is highlighted in the first amendment of the constitution, making it not only disrespectful, but furthermore illegal to hone someone else’s’ beliefs. To some, their religion is their whole life and they center their life around their views. I would not want my faith to be insulted, but rather studied by non believers to learn about it. I have done some research of my own on other religions such as Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism. Gaining knowledge on these other religions has allowed me to better understand the people who practice and respect their beliefs.

  • For this assignment I did a Salon Self assessment.  The Salon assessment talked about different important people during the time of the Enlightenment.  The Enlightenment was a crucial time for recognizing the value of diverse spiritual perspectives.

  • Introduction to Ethics and Contemporary Christian ethics helped me learn more about the ethical values and issues throughout Christianity and in a whole world aspect. For this portion I decided to add evidence of me taking both of these courses in the link below.

Self Reflect and Assessment

ii. Exercise responsible freedom and civic engagement based on an informed value system

  • Civic engagement includes community members coming together for the greater good of the people through both political and non-political processes. Citizens work together to make a change in the community and to protect public values. Before taking the steps to make this change, possible owed to the freedom of the Americas, the one wanting the change must be educated on the effects of said amendment and if it is even possible. Having knowledge on the subject of change will force officials to take one seriously and shows passion about the change. Civic engagement is a tremendous gift given to us by the constitution but it can be used and abused by uneducated citizens.

  • My Social action project was a way for me to exercise responsible freedom and civic engagement based on an informed value system.  This assignment was intriguing to me because I had the opportunity to help the community.  I think it is very important for all members of society to exercise these rights.

  • Also, I had the opportunity to participate in the Twin Lakes breast cancer awareness walk in Greensburg PA.  This was another way for me to volunteer my time to make a difference.  I made great relationships with the people who ran the walk/run as well.  After completing this I felt fulfillment in volunteering my time to the community.
